Naked Leather
What is naked leather?
Naked leather refers to the hide once the hair has been removed from the top side and the meat and fat have been removed from the underside. The hide is now hairless and ready to be tanned.
How is naked leather made?
Before this stage in the leather production process, we refer to the raw material as a hide. The hide is pickled, bated, and tanned before being turned into leather. In this pre-tanned state, the hide is extremely delicate and you can see the hide’s natural markings and defects.
