Crust Leather
Crust leather is the term given to the hide when it has been tanned and dried but hasn’t been dyed. Crusting is part of the leather production process and the resulting hide is popular thanks to its “blank slate” quality. In this state, its color ranges from off-white to yellow or light brown, so the hide can be dyed a range of colors to suit the producer’s preferences. Chrome-tanned leather usually has a “chrome crust” and vegetable-tanned leather has a “vegetable crust”.
