Flesh Side
Flesh Side
What is the flesh side of leather?
Leather has two sides: the backside of the leather is known as the flesh side. This side of the leather was originally connected to the animal. It’s usually rougher than the other side of the leather.
The top side of the leather, also known as the grain side or hair side, is on the opposite side to the flesh side.
How is the flesh side of leather processed?
The flesh side of leather is either finished or sanded. If the flesh side is sanded, it becomes the side that’ll be used in the product. This is known as suede.
